Jordan Ayew is trending on Twitter and for reasons not so unfamiliar with fans of the Black Stars and others who have been keeping tabs on the striker’s career.

The Crystal Palace striker has been the Black Stars arrowhead striker for some time now but his transition to the role following the phasing out of Ghana’s record goal-scorer Asamoah Gyan has not come with all the elements expected of him.

He has not been on the scoresheet for the Black Stars since his penalty goal in the 3-1 win over Sao Tome and Principe on March 28, 2021, in Cape Coast. His last two goals for the Black Stars have been penalties and against the same opponent across two matches.

His form for his club has not been different with the striker yet to score for Crystal Palace this season despite playing seven matches for the side, coming off the bench in only one of them. His last goal for his club came in the 2020/21 season where he scored only one goal in 33 appearances, 23 of them being starts.

The reason for him topping Twitter trends today is because he missed a penalty and also failed to score in the 8-0 demolition of Soccer Intellectuals at Cape Coast by the Black Stars in a preparatory game ahead of their World Cup qualifying doubleheader first-leg against Zimbabwe at the Cape Coast Stadium on Saturday.

Aside from his miss and continuous barren run in front of goal, the striker was seen in a viral photo earlier today where new Black Stars coach, Milovan Rajevac was pictured demonstrating how to shoot to the 29-year old striker.

Many of the netizens who reacted to the match results are calling for Jordan to be dropped from the Black Stars squad or either be benched since he doesn’t provide the results for which he is tasked to provide.
