Coach Otto Addo and his technical team supervised the first training session of the Black Stars since their appointment last month.

The team trained with seven players at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday as they prepare for the match against Nigeria in the World Cup qualifiers on Friday in Kumasi.

Players present for the first session included Thomas Partey, goalkeepers Abdul Manaf Nurudeen and Jojo Wollacott, Edmund Addo, Andy Yiadom and Fatawu Issahaku.

Mas-Ud Didi Dramani and George Boateng as well as Chris Hughton and other technical team members were present.

News arrivals in camp

Several Black Stars players have arrived in camp ahead of the match against Nigeria on Friday.

Some of the players who reported to camp apart from the six who trained on Monday are Gideon Mensah, Alexander Djiku, Majeed Waris, Felix Afena-Gyan, Joseph Paintsil, Danlad Ibrahim, Dauda Mohammed and Yaw Yeboah.

The rest include Joseph Aidoo, Christopher Antwi-Adjei and Hearts of Oak’s Dennis Korsah.

Meanwhile, the Stars absentee list continues to grow with Samuel Owusu forced by injury to join the numbers that would be absent for the doubleheader. That list is led by skipper Andre Ayew, striker Benjamin Tetteh, Reading left-back Abdul Baba Rahman and Rennes winger Kamaldeen Sulemana.

However, the absence of Baba Rahman has profited Hearts of Oak full-back Dennis Korsah and 33-year-old former Fulham defender Dennis Odoi who have both received their debut call up.

Debuting Semenyo to miss out

Bristol City’s Antoine Semenyo has been ruled out of the Black Stars versus Super Eagles crunch doubleheader after suffering an injury with Bristol City over the weekend.

He was substituted in the sixth minute of the game and will not join the Ghana team in camp for the games against Nigeria.

Meanwhile, Majeed Waris has received a late invite to join the team after several years of absence from the team. His invitation is due to the limited options in the Black Stars attack with Jordan Ayew a doubt after he reportedly tested positive for Covid-19. Unconfirmed reports say the Crystal Palace man will be available.

AS Roma’s Felix Afena-Gyan will be the other forward aside from the France-based Waris expected to lead the lines for Ghana against the Super Eagles.
