Black Starlets Squad for WAFU Zone B Cup of Nations Revealed


The head coach of the U-17 male national team, Coach Ben Fokuo has named his squad for the WAFU Zone B cup of nations in Kegue, Togo.

The squad which has players coming from lower division teams has top names including Zaidan Alhassan of New Edubiase United FC, Jonas Naafo of Nania FC and Bolga All Stars’ Bukari Sammed.

The Black Starlets are in Group B with Nigeria and Cote D’Ivoire for the tournament.The Black Starlets are however not involved in the first round of matches as a result of the group’s composition of 3 teams. The two time World champions will open their campaign with a fierce contest against Nigeria on Saturday, 9th January after the latter had faced off with Cote D’Ivoire on Wednesday, 6th January. They will then finish their group campaign with a clash against neighbours Cote D’Ivoire three days later.

Meanwhile the Starlets have arrived in Togo for the tournament which started on Tuesday, 5th January in Kegue, Togo.

The top two teams from the tournament will represent the Zone in the 2021 U-17 AFCON in Morocco. The tournament was originally scheduled to take place in Sierra Leone in August 2020 but later changed to Togo due the COVID-19 pandemic.
