Chelsea’s Baba Rahman joins Reading FC
Ghana and Chelsea left-back Abdul Baba Rahman has extended his contract with the Blues before heading out on loan to join Championship side Reading FC.
The Tamale-born left-back joined Chelsea in 2015 from German side Augsburg after playing a starring role for the side in the Bundesliga side. He was brought with the hope of him competing for a role in the Chelsea left-side of defence but after making a combined 23 appearances for the side in his first season, he was loaned back to the Bundesliga with Schalke.
A cruciate ligament knee injury picked at the 2017 AFCON with the Black Stars scuppered his progress as he spent a year on the sidelines.
He returned in January 2017 to sign on loan for Shalke and made five appearances before swapping the Bundesliga for Ligue 1 with Reims whom he turned out 11 times for. He signed for Real Mallorca the following summer on a season-long loan but sustained an injury after just two appearances that kept him out the entire season.
His most recent loan stint was in Greek with PAOK whom he turned out 17 times for in all competitions and also winning the Greek cup with them.
