Awuni and Asante drive roaring Lions past Nsoatreman

Accra Lions temporarily moved to the top of the betPawa Premier League table after five rounds of matches with a 2 – 0 win over Nsoatreman FC in Accra.

Lions secured their fourth win of the season thanks to a goal each from Daniel Awuni and Frederick Asante in the first half.

Daniel Awuni connected to Remember Boateng’s cross in the 10th minute to send the ball beyond Yaw Owusu Ansah in the goal for Nsoatreman. Lions nearly got the second 10 minutes later when Awuni and Asante combined with a one-two exchange but it did not yield the needed results.

An injury to Baba Apiiga forced Ibrahim Accra Lions into an early substitution with a minute to the half-hour mark.

The Accra-based club soon doubled their lead with Frederick Asante getting the all-important second goal to put Lions in firm control four minutes before the halftime break.

Mohammed Gargo made multiple substitutions in the 75th minute as he brought on Kpodo Bernard, Samuel Kusi and Martin Antwi for Stephen Diyuo, Baba Mahama and Walid Neymer respectively in a bid to force his side back into the game but it did not yield the required results despite late pressure from the guests.

Nsoatreman FC is eighth on the table while Accra Lions takes over from Aduana Stars as leaders of the pack ahead of the rest of the weekend’s fixtures. Lions will next travel to face a resurgent Bechem United on Saturday while Nsoatreman will welcome Dreams FC also on the same day.
