All set for Uefa Champions League group stage draw
The 2022/23 UEFA Champions League group stage draw will take place today 25th August 18:00 local time in Istanbul, Turkey. The UCL seeds for today’s draw are out, promising to give out some very nice group stage fixtures.
Last season’s Champions League and Europa League winners are in the top-seeded pot alongside winners of leagues in the top leagues in Europe, making Manchester City, PSG, Bayern Munich, Porto, Ajax, and AC Milan join Real Madrid and Eintracht Frankfurt in Pot One.
Real Madrid won the competition in the 2021/22 season after beating Liverpool 1-0 in the final. This time round both clubs will likely be drawn against each other in the group stage as they are placed in different pots.
As usual, there are 32 clubs allocated into the four pots of eight teams each based on UEFA rankings.
September 6, marks the official start date of the new Champions League campaign with the group stage fixtures which had the 26 automatic entrants joined by another six teams that emerged from qualifying rounds.
Pot 1: Real Madrid, Eintracht Frankfurt, Manchester City, AC Milan, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, Porto, and Ajax.
Teams in pots 2, 3, and 4 are ordered based on UEFA coefficients that consider results and sporting performance over a five-year period of continental competition.
Pot 2: Liverpool, Chelsea, Barcelona, Juventus, Atletico Madrid, Sevilla, RB Leipzig and Tottenham Hotspur.
Pot 3: Borussia Dortmund, Red Bull Salzburg, Shekhar Donetsk, Inter Milan, Napoli, Benfica, Sporting and Bayer Leverkusen.
Pot 4: Rangers, Dinamo Zagreb, Marseille, Copenhagen, Club Brugge, Celtic, Viktoria Plze and Maccabi Haifa.
