Mr Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, leader of the Majority group Parliament has slammed his colleagues in the Minority for always changing their position regarding the issue of the beleaguered lawmaker for Dome –Kwabenya Sara Adwoa Safo.

The lawmaker gave an instance when Minority Chief Whip Muntaka Mubarak did not agree with the Speaker on referring a petition against absentee lawmakers to the Privileges Committee on his own after a petition was filed against Adwoa Safo and two of her colleagues for reneging on their parliamentary duties.

He indicated during an interview on TV3 that this was the position the Minority caucus previously held on to but criticized them for suddenly changing their position on the matter.

Adwoa Safo and her two colleagues were summoned before the Privileges Committee for undue absenteeism from Parliament. Whereas the two; Henry Quartey and Kennedy Agyapong appeared before the committee and gave reasons for their absence, Adwoa Safo did not make herself available despite several efforts to reach her.

By the provisions of Article 97 (1) (c) of the 1992 Constitution, Hon Sarah Adwoa Safo has the responsibility to give to Parliament reasons that warranted her long absence from the house which reached forty-two (42) Sittings for the period under consideration.

Despite pressure mounting for the seat to be declared vacant, Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has decided to patiently wait for Parliament to resume from its recess in October before delivering his ruling.

“I need time to submit to this house a reasoned, written ruling. I cannot in the haste of today, give you the ruling. In the circumstance, I will urge this House for us to call it a day,” Bagbin.
