A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communication team, Mr Elikem Kotoko has slammed the Minister of Communications, Madam Ursula Owusu-Ekuful for her handling of the SIM card re-registration exercise.

“Truth is there is nothing unique about Ursula. She is a squared peg in a round hole as usual,” the maverick politician scoffed.

He explained in a Facebook post that if taking biometrics was important to gather the database of Ghanaians by institutions, DVLA and SSNIT should have also requested for same as the telcos are doing in now.

“Why hasn’t the DVLA or SSNIT requested for biometrics to be taken for an update but the Ministry of Communication, ironically one of the institutions supposed to be at the helm of the technology drive is proving archaic,” he questioned.

Expressing his anger at the minister for ordering the SIM card re-registration, he alleged the minister is still at her post because she had a “SPECIAL RELATIONSHIP with the President, like Sarah Adwoa Safo hence, she continues to do things her way”.

Truth is there is nothing unique about Ursula. She doesn’t even qualify to be referred to as stubborn, she’s just being silly and foolish in the position offered her making it obvious she is a squared peg in a round hole as usual (the toy things she is doing with that sector) but as usual, just because she may have a SPECIAL RELATIONSHIP with the President, like Sarah Adjoa Safo hence, she continues to do things her way.

Ursula, who said to Ghanaians that her teenage child could manage Ghana’s economy better than then President John Dramani Mahama is herself found wanting and can’t reach out to that child of hers who must be older and wiser even now to help her. You expect to take in revenue thru subscribers’ usage of their phones, and at the same time you are constantly harassing the subscribers of your intention to block their sims. Apart from the challenge it will pose to many of them, how about you who won’t meet your revenue target and the telcos who will lose a lot.

Why hasn’t the DVLA or SSNIT requested for biometrics to be taken for an update but the Ministry of Communication, ironically one of the institutions supposed to be at the helm of the technology drive is proving archaic. Simple, Ursula wants an opportunity to make money and hey, the President is REWARDING her for a long service.
