Alliance For Footsoldiers Advocacy, a supposed pressure group in the New Patriotic Party has raised concerns about the delay in the appointment of MMDCEs by the president.

In a press release issued by the group on Thursday, September 2, 2021, the group asked how long it will take as the country is in limbo with regard to the appointment of MMDCEs.

The release which was issued by popular NPP member, Sir Obama Pokuase who happens to the Executive Secretary of the group indicated that the alliance “has noted with grave concern the unprecedented delay by the President Akufo-Addo-led government in announcing a list of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in its second term in accordance with Article 243(1) of the 1992 constitution”

According to the group, local government has been stifled as former MMDCEs who were even asked to remain at post “till further notice” have been barred from taking any decision involving a policy issued by the president through the Chief of Staff on January 11, 2021, in compliance with the Presidential Transition Act (2012).

AFFA is therefore through its press release appealing to President Akufo-Addo to expedite the process in announcing the list of MMDCEs in response to “the cry of footsoldiers and Ghanaians who are poised to see the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) government hand over power to itself, come January 2025”.

Meanwhile, General Secretary of the NPP, Mr John Boadu has earlier announced this week that President Akufo-Addo would announce the list of MMDCEs upon his return from his trip to Germany even though he claims nobody can force the president to do so.
