Elizabeth Sackey becomes first female Mayor of Accra

History has been made as Madam Elizabeth Kwatso Sackey got a hundred per cent nod from the Assembly Members of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly today.

This makes the former legislator for Okaikoi North the first female Mayor of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, having pulled through successfully from one of Ghana’s diverse Metropolitan Assembly’s in the heart of the capital city Accra.

 While some of her colleague nominees are having a tough time struggling to secure the approval of the assembly members even though the President has urged them[Assembly Members] to endorse his nominations, she has flawlessly secured a perfect score of 100 per cent.

Madam Elizabeth Sackey showed appreciation to the Assembly Members for endorsing her and also recognized the daunting task ahead and asked for their support to help build the Accra Metropolis.

She seeks to make sanitation one of her priorities during her tenure as the Accra Metropolitan Assembly boss. And aside from her personal goals has pledged not to let President Akufo-Addo down as her nomination and endorsement shows the President’s willingness to increase women participation in the decision making process in the country.

Members of Parliament for Odododiodoo, Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpujie, Okaikoi South, Dakua Newman and Ablekuma South, Dr Alfred Okoe Vanderpujie were all in attendance.

The Assembly members also pledged to support the new mayor.
