Dr Emmanuel Akwetey - Executive Director, IDEG

Executive Director of the Institute for Democratic Governance (IDEG) foundation, Dr Emmanuel Akwetey has waded into the conversations on the recent electoral reforms proposed by the National Democratic Congress after the 2020 general elections.

He is of the view that so far as any party has suggested some electoral reforms it is positive for democratic governance and would urge that the proposed reforms be looked into critically to see if they can be taken into consideration.

For the Electoral Commission, Dr Akwetey said that there is the need for a body to monitor the body that is in charge of Ghana’s democracy as a country and looks into the Electoral Commission’s works.

The issue of the National Democratic Congress electoral reform proposals have come on the radar recently. The recent response being from the New Patriotic Party telling its major rival to send its said proposals to the appropriate channels, but the NDC also is resolute in making sure their proposals are heard by the Electoral Commission.
