The National Democratic Congress (NDC), through its National Communication Officer Sammy Gyamfi, has stated that the Sanitation Levy (Borla Tax) introduced by the Nana Akufo-Addo government is needless, unjustifiable and smacks of insensitivity.

In a press conference at the party Headquarters, the communication officer lamented the suffering Ghanaians have been subjected to by the Nana Addo-led government.

Reacting to some of the initiatives from the government that are worsening the lives of Ghanaians, he stated amongst them, the ‘Borla tax’. The Sanitation levy is a 10 pesewas charge on every litre of diesel and petrol.

“Never has it been heard in our history that a government has to rely on a special tax handle on fuel to keep our surroundings clean. One of such taxes is the 10 pesewas Sanitation Levy imposed by the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government on every litre of petrol and diesel,” Sammy Gyamfi

He concluded by calling on the government to abolish the obnoxious tax.

“We insist that the introduction of this levy in this time of extreme economic difficulties is needless, unjustifiable and smacks of insensitivity of the highest order on the part of the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government,” he stressed.
