Akufo-Addo secretary threatens Odike with court action
An infuriated Nana Badiatuo Asante, Executive Secretary to President Akufo-Addo has called on the founder of the United Progressive Party, Akwasi Addai Odike to immediately render an unqualified apology to him and also retract an alleged defamatory statement concerning illegal mining being directed at him.
Legal representatives of Mr Asante noted with concerns some allegations being made by Mr Odike associating Mr Asante with some illegal mining at Bosomefreho in the Ashanti Region.
The comments have outrightly been debunked and deemed false by Mr Asante’s lawyers.
“It is instructive to point out to you that you ought to have taken steps to verify the authenticity of the information before publishing same in the public domain,” the lawyers said in the statement.
The lawyer’s statement also deemed Mr Odike’s comments against their client as a calculated attempt to ruin his reputation and cause public disaffection against him.
Legal action is in the offing against Mr Odike if he does not retract the allegation he levelled against their client.
Also, some chiefs in the Ashanti Region did not take it lightly with Mr Odike after he accused them of being involved in illegal mining as well.
He was also accused of attempts to persuade the youth to rise against their traditional rulers to fight against the canker.
The Kumasi Traditional Council also waded into the conversation and express their misgiving about the comments, tagging them as disrespectful.
Unfortunately, the situation led to Mr Odike’s office being vandalized and an investigation into the matter has commenced.
