The newly nominated Mayor of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly Madam Elizabeth Sackey has started coming up with ideas to make Accra one of the cleanest cities.

According to the newly nominated Mayor and former legislator for Okaikwei South, evening clean up exercises is one of the strategies that will rid the capital city of filth.

She further indicated that sanitation is not the only issue she is going to tackle but the issue of unemployment is on her radar as well where she assured that the unemployment situation is going to reduce to the barest minimum.

Former Mayor of Accra and current Member of Parliament for Ablekuma South Dr Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije also urged Madam Elizabeth Sackey to tackle the sanitation problem in Accra.

Madam Elizabeth Sackey replaces Mr Mohammed Nii Adjei Sowah who was Mayor during Akufo-Addo’s first term and her nomination was made public following the release of the official list of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCE) yesterday by Local Government Minister Dan Kwaku Botwe.

President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, had the vision to make Accra the neatest city in Africa by the end of his first term of office. That is far from achieving though he is now three months less into his fifth year leading the country.

“The commitment we are making and which I want you all to make with me is that by the time we end our four-year [First] term, Accra is going to be the cleanest city in Africa,” Mr Akufo-Addo pledged ahead of his first term.
