The Ghana Revenue Authority in reacting to the report that exposed Labianca Company Limited for colluding with officers at the Customs Division of GRA to evade tax, the authority has assured that all persons found guilty will be dealt with appropriately.

GRA in its  statement regarding the issue  said, “the Board and Management of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has followed media discussions and reactions following the release of the Report of the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s investigation into the alleged commission of corruption and corruption-related offences involving Labianca Group of companies and the Customs Division of GRA.”

It said it has utmost respect for the Office of the Special Prosecutor and is taking the report seriously for various reasons. It said it is currently studying the report brought out by the Office of the Special Prosecutor to capture instances that will lead to revenue leakages or has the potential in order to deal with them appropriately.

They also seized the opportunity to clarify that comments made by Commissioner of the Customs Division of the GRA  Col(RTD) Kwadwo Damoah on the issue during a Customs Management Retreat on Wednesday 10th August 2022 do not reflect the views of management and the board of the GRA.

The citizenry was also assured by the GRA that, before the release of the OSP’s report measures were taken to bring out robust and accurate measures in determining the values of imported products.

These measures according to GRA were adopted by the new board inaugurated last year to curb practices that would end up not giving the country the exact value for the importation of goods.

They however promised to curb the use of one’s influence and discretionary power that will lead to revenue losses.

“GRA uses this opportunity to assure all stakeholders of GRA and the general public that GRA has taken steps to ensure that all allegations of impropriety on the part of any of its staff are promptly and decisively investigated and that all cases of tax evasion or other acts that are contrary to the Laws governing the Authority will be dealt with.”
