You’re children of villagers – Okyenhene attacks youth for insulting Akufo-Addo
Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin, the Okyenhene of Akyem Abuakwa has encouraged the youth who are engaged in illegal mining to rather choose education over the illegal extraction of minerals.
Reacting to some youth insulting the president when he during an address at the St Mark Anglican Church at Kyebi advised them to stop engaging in the practice that destroys the environment, the Okyenhene lamented that the youth lack proper home training which is why they would tow that line and insult the president who meant well.
Mincing no words, the overlord of Akyem Abuakwa told the youth that the money they think they are making now would not be sustainable at a point, however, what they would make from education is sustainable.
“You wake up and go to do galamsey. It’s the youth I am advising. That galamsey that they give you GH¢100 is not sustainable for your future. Nana Addo has given you Free Senior High School. Soon even with a bachelor’s degree, you would have to sweep the floor. Let’s stop this. Let’s appreciate the things he has done for Ghana and protect him.”
He said it is unfortunate that President Akufo-Addo has been at the receiving end of criticism despite the strides he has made for Ghana. “Those insulting the President are children of villagers. They are uncivilized. No well-nurtured person will insult an elderly. If you were raised in the Church you will not insult an elder. If you are not villager then you may be a witch or wizard”.
The Akyem Abuakwa overlord also could not fathom how Ghana cannot put most natural resources into good use and blamed some chiefs for encouraging the illegal mining practice by collecting monies to give out lands for illegal mining to the detriment of the people.
