You went overboard – Vitus Azeem criticizes Col Damoah for threatening the Special Prosecutor
One of the officers at the centre of the Labianca scandal, Col (RTD) Kwadwo Damoah, Commissioner of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority has been called out by anti-corruption campaigner Mr Vitus Azeem for his outbursts at the office of the Special Prosecutor over the tax evasion allegations levelled against Labianca company limited.
From Mr Azeem’s point of view, it would have been better for the Commissioner to say his side of the story than to let his emotions to cloud him to issue threats.
“The report was not surprising but as for the action from the Commissioner, I think that it was unfortunate and uncalled for,” Mr Azeem said
In response to allegations levelled against him by the office of the Special Prosecutor, Col Damoah revealed the frosty relations between him and the Special Prosecutor, claiming that it is just an attempt to drag his name in the mud.
“If you read it [report] very well, there is nothing in it. It is hollow. I even sent people to go and tell him [Kissi Agyabeng] that he is a small boy. I am older than him. f he attempts to destroy me, it won’t be easy for him. People have tried it. I have survived, and this one too, I will survive,” Col. Damoah said.
“Instead of explaining the allegations made against you and defending that you have not done anything wrong, you personalized the whole matter in an inappropriate forum. I expected him to deal with the issues,” Mr Azeem said of the Commissioner’s reaction.
“Both the Special Prosecutor and the Commissioner have been appointed by the President so they are equal at that level but playing different roles. So it is not about whether he is a small boy but he must work together with the Special Prosecutor and not have a conflict with him,” Mr Azeem added.
