You are the reason why we have ghost names on payroll – CLOGSAG accuses politicians
Politicians have been accused by the Civil and Local Government Staff Association Ghana (CLOGSAG) of being the real cause of ghost names on the government payroll.
CLOGSAG cited the worrying trend of political actors’ interference in the activities of the civil service as being one of the major causes of the situation.
Addressing participants at the 5th Nathan Annang Quao Lectures on the theme “Abuse of political power in the Ghanaian Civil Service: the bane of National Development,” the Executive Secretary of the Association, Dr Isaac Bampoe Addo called on the government to wean itself from the activities of the service.
Dr Bampoe said that “Our evidence reveals that the so-called ghost names that cannot be identified in the civil service payroll have turned out to be personal assistants of politicians”.
He also worried about how political parties apparatchiks have hijacked permanent consultancies and critical functions of the service.
To him, this has made many services being rendered by civil servants become of low quality.
He also cited opportunities that are supposed to build the capacities of the civil service have also not been spared by the politician as well as the ones the politicians cannot lay their hands on, they simply sabotage them.
