The Upper West Regional Caucus of the Minority in Parliament has complained that indigenes of the area have been left out in the government’s hiring of District Health Directors for the region.

They said though the region got the applicants with the highest score in the test carried out for 71 vacant positions with 116 applicants, no indigene from the area was selected.

According to them, the eight shortlisted from the region were not hired on the basis that they lack the expertise in managing activities of District Health Directorates as well as controlling epidemic situations.

Secretary of the Upper West NDC Caucus in Parliament, Dr Sebastian N. Sandaare deemed the outcome as an unfair one and urged the Ghana Health Service to once again look into such recruitment process for a balanced regional representation.

“The Ghana Health Service is reminded of the duty to act fairly and reasonably in the exercise of its administrative authority, as contained in Article 23 of the 1992 constitution.

“The Ghana Health Service is enjoined to prohibit discrimination and prejudice on grounds of places of origin,” Dr Sandaare stated.
