We will protect Ghana from ‘disdainful’ characters – Akufo-Addo
The benefits of democracy, Ghana has enjoyed since independence has been extolled by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
According to President Akufo-Addo, Ghana’s economic and infrastructure development has come about through democratic governance.
The president made these comments while addressing the members of the Ghana Bar Association during this year’s Ghana Bar Conference in Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region. He further sent a strong word of caution to those opposed to the democratic system of governance that they will not be allowed any space to operate.
President Akufo-Addo referred to such persons as persons who are “incapable of effective popular mobilisation through accepted channels”.
However, Ghanaians were assured that government will be vigilant to protect the nation against such “disdainful” characters. The President’s comments come on the back of the recent coup staged in Guinea.
After gunfire in Guinea’s capital, a group of soldiers dissolved the constitution, closed the borders, and announced a nationwide curfew in a broadcast on state TV on Sunday evening [September 4, 2021].
