We have not released any figures on ethnic breakdown yet – Government Statistician
A purported census result attempting to give a breakdown of Ghana’s ethnic and religious affiliation has been deemed as fake and the Ghana Statistical Service has called on the public to disregard those results.
According to Government Statistician Samuel Kwabena Anim, the service is yet to release authentic census results in terms of ethnicity and religion.
“Let me be categorical about it; the Ghana Statistical Service disassociates itself from this social media story on ethnic and religious breakdown. This is what we will do in the coming weeks. As I indicated, our volume 3 C will look at population by background characteristics, and among the background, characteristics will be issues of religious and ethnic affiliation.”
Provisional data on Ghana’s2021 Population and Housing Census was released by the service on Wednesday 22nd September 2021.
According to that data, 50.7% of Ghana’s population are females whiles the remaining 49.3% are males.
The data further revealed that Ghana’s population had surged by 6.1 million per the figures that were recorded in 2010, Ghana population is also expected to double in the next 33 years with an estimated population of over 50 million by 2050.
Ahafo Region took the place of Upper West as the least populous region as previous records on post-independence census allude to that fact, following closely are the Savannah and North East which are second and third-least populous regions respectively.
