‘The days when public lands were dissipated without regard for public interest are over’ – Akufo-Addo

His excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has directed that no public institution should deal in or allocate any land without the approval of the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources.

The directive was given by the President at the inauguration of a 25-member National Lands Commission at the Jubilee House on Wednesday, September 1, 2021.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the first gentleman of the land stressed all public lands allocated to the state institutions remained public lands, entrusted to the President and managed by the Lands Commission.

He added that “the days when public lands were dissipated without regard to the public interest are over.”

President Akufo-Addo also entreated the newly instituted member of the commission to earnestly ensure the digitization of the records of the Lands Commission. He noted that “most of the reforms needed to build efficient land administration will be within our reach if we are able to move away from manual registration to digital registration.”

As a way to prepare the minds of the new Commission members for the tasks ahead, President Akufo-Addo described the job ahead as daunting whiles he expressing his belief that with focus, good policies and determination the National Lands Commission will deliver on its mandate. He entreated them to offer maximum support to the Lands and Natural Resources Minister.

Mr Alex Quaynor, the chairman of the Lands Commission assured the President that, the Commission is focused on meeting its deliverables within the given schedules. He also expressed gratitude to the President for having trust in them to deliver.
