The Police in Takoradi has declared Josephine Payin Mensah, the woman who went missing and has been found as a suspect for allegedly faking her kidnapping.

In a press release issued on Thursday morning, the Ghana Police Service disclosed that preliminary investigations have revealed that Josephine might have conspired with other persons over her possible planned disappearance.

It further stated that three persons have so far been arrested for further interrogation on the charge of conspiracy in connection with the disappearance of Josephine Payin Mensah.

Also, the Police have refuted claims of pregnancy by Josephine and her family.  Relying on the reports of medical experts who have examined her at the Axim Government Hospital, it has emerged that the woman was never pregnant within the period under review.

At about 9:30 am on September 21, 2021, when she reappeared, Josephine was immediately sent to the Axim Government Hospital in the Western Region for medical attention.

Police say the reappeared woman mentioned during interrogation that she used to go for antenatal reviews and assessment at the European Hospital in Takoradi. However, medical reports from the health facilities suggest even though she has visited the hospital before, she never visited there with a pregnancy.

Though under investigation for masterminding her own disappearance, the Police have given an assurance that adequate measures are in place to ensure she is safe.

A team with support from the National Headquarters has been put together to quell the emerging trend of false kidnapping in the Western region.
