An indefinite industrial action by the Staff of the Ghana Meteorological Agency is set to commence today February 18 2022, to demand better conditions of service.

The unresponsive nature of the Minister of Communication and Digitization since Ghana Meteo staff presented a resolution on 5th January 2022 triggered them to go on a strike today to fight for their demands.

As a government agency, the GMet is responsible for gathering and giving out information on the weather situation on daily basis.

Also, the agency provides a meteorological watch over the Flight Information Region (FIR) for the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority.

Sectors that benefit from the agency’s weather information include agriculture, industry, civil engineering, forestry, management of dams, tourism, among others.

This adds to the number of strike actions the government has already faced this year including that of the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana, Anaesthetists, Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana and the University Teachers Association of Ghana which is still ongoing and has seen the association been dragged to court by the National Labour Commission.
