A former Presidential candidate aspirant and a New Patriotic Party heavy-weight, Dr Kobina Arthur Kennedy, has slammed the language used by a Council of State member Sam Okudzeto in criticizing the Private Members Bill filed by two Parliamentarians to improve legal education in Ghana.

Mr Sam Okudzeto, a veteran lawyer and politician in disagreeing with the bill tabled by the two NDC MPs threatened to deal with them according to laid down rules.

Honourable Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor and Francis-Xavier Sosu, MPs for South Dayi and Madina respectively are the two members of the house who tabled the Private Members Bill seeking to pass regulations that will reform legal education in Ghana including the exemption of the Chief Justice and other Supreme Court justices from the General Legal Council.

The renowned lawyer Sam Okudzeto is quoted saying“If you misbehave, we will deal with you in accordance with the rules and laws that have been laid down”.

“Such language, respectfully, is disdainful of Parliament,” Dr Arthur Kennedy wrote in a write-up on Thursday, November 4.

“Now, there is no living Ghanaian I hold in higher esteem than Sam Okudzeto – for his courage and determination in our valiant struggle to end the PNDC dictatorship.

“But he is dead wrong on this one. If Parliament cannot pass a law on education – any education, who can?” he asked

According to him, the GLC’s role should be to provide feedback as Parliament “seeks to improve a legal educational system and profession that no longer serves our requirements.”
