As the government aims at tackling Covid-19 head-on during this yuletide a stringent and robust testing regime has been commenced at one of Ghana’s major entry points the Kotoka International Airport.

This move to fight the disease follows the discovery of the Omicron variant by the Ghana Health Service and was announced during their press briefing on Wednesday, December 1st 2021.

Reports also indicate that about 34 cases were detected by the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research from sequenced samples from 120 returning travellers.

Meanwhile, Dr Nsiah Asare, the Presidential Adviser on Health revealed that Ghana will continue to do mandatory isolation for all people who will be entering the country for the festivities.

This robust testing regime at the airport is to curb the spread of the virus.

“Because of the robust testing system that we have put in at the airport which we have even strengthened further for the Christmas festivities, we will continually be isolating anybody who tests positive and test him or her again on the third day, and if the person tests positive again, we will give him or her another seven days.”

President Akufo-Addo has also called on Ghanaians severally to comply with the stipulated protocols put in place. He indicated that the battle against the virus continues unabated as the spread is far from over.

”Despite having a relatively lower active case count of 727 persons infected with Covid-19, as of November 28, 2021, and  vaccinating a total of 5,566,210 persons, it is important to bear in mind that the pandemic is far from over.”

”Last Sunday, the Ghana Health Service announced several other additional important measures aimed at ensuring that we continue to win the fight against the virus. I appeal to all of you to adhere to them diligently.”

In order to also ensure that those mandated to take their jabs do the needful Health Minister Kweku Agyeman Manu revealed that an inspection of the Covid-19 vaccination cards among persons such as Drivers and Health Workers would commence from January 2022.

The government’s move is aimed at curbing the issue of vaccine hesitancy among the citizenry and to compel people to take the jabs.
