Pay us the cost of living allowance or we will join the strike action on July 18 – PSWU
The Public Sector Workers Union (PSWU) has added its voice to the numerous labour agitations ongoing in the country. The is also demanding that the government pays its members 20 per cent of their basic salary as Cost of Living Allowance known as COLA.
Speaking to Agyenim Boateng Adjaye on the Active Morning Show, the General Secretary for PSWU, Mr. Bernard Adjei, cautioned the government to pay the union the COLA to prevent the union from embarking on its intended strike on Monday, July 18.
“If the government does not negotiate with us for the 20 per cent COLA, we will go on the said strike,” he said, adding that “Article 71 of the constitution should be reviewed” because the article does not favour the public sector workers.
He called on the government to find possible solutions to the high cost of living in public sectors.
Meanwhile, meetings between the government and four unions which have embarked on the strike action have yet to result in any meaningful roadmap with all three previous meetings ending with the union leaders still affirming their resolve to strike until the government cedes to their demands.
