Peter Ayinbisa - DCE for Bongo

The District Chief Executive for Bongo in the Upper East Region, Peter Ayinbisa, have had his name circulating on social media over a comment he made during a discussion on Dreamz FM – Bolgatanga as reported by A1 Radio, Bolga. According to the DCE for Bongo, a town in the Upper East region, drinking water for residents of Bongo makes women fertile and men sexually active.

His comment was in relation to reports of high cases of teenage pregnancies in the Bongo District where he disclosed that “Somebody told me a story that the water we drink makes us (men) sexually active and makes the women highly potent.”

Mr Ayinbisa was quick to add that his assertion was not on scientific reasons but confirmed it was revealed to him by a nurse.

“I don’t know the science of it, but a female nurse told me that it’s true. That the water we drink makes us highly potent and makes us the men sexually active. I don’t know the science of it but this was what somebody told me and I am tempted to believe in it.”

Explaining the factors that might be responsible for the high cases of teenage pregnancies in the area and the way forward, Mr Ayinbisa said “It’s a multifaceted matter and the approaches cannot be one way to solving the problem. The parents have a role to play. The community has a role to play; guidance by teachers for the teenager who are in school, and we as a government- the local assembly has a role to play.”

In addressing the situation which has become a public concern, Mr Ayinbisa called for collective efforts to mitigate the situation.

“We are not the only sexually active people in this region- let us restrain ourselves.” He added.
