NIA stops offering Ghana Card replacement services at regional offices
The National Identification Authority has announced that it will stop offering Ghana Card replacement services at its regional offices effective today, August 8, 2022.
According to the NIA, the 275 operational district offices of the authority will now offer this service to enable the regional offices focus on updating personal information which includes correction or change of names.
Also, an amount of GH¢30 is required to be paid at any CAL Bank branch or via short code *771# for this service which will be done upon the completion of an electronic form.
Per a statement endorsed by Acting Head of Corporate Affairs Dr Abudu Abdul-Ganiyu, “All applicants for the update service will be required to provide the reason for the update and must support the request with evidence”.
The NIA further indicates that some services which will not need a new card to be printed such as change or correction of residential, postal or digital address, change of marital status, change of occupation, change of level of education, among others, will come at no cost.
From September 12, 2022, also, “the 275 decentralized district offices of the NIA will now take care of the updating of personal information,” the authority has announced
“Applicants should also take note that not every request for an update or replacement will be handled on the day it is made,” it cautioned.
“Review of requests may take longer than a day. Applicants will be required to pay the statutory fee only when requests are approved and NOT before.”
The NIA explains that these measures are being put in place not only due to the deadline extension of Sim card re-registration by the Minister of Communication and Digitization but also it is in line with its standard of operations to provide continuous registration and provide identity management services across the country.
