Leader of the Minority group, Mr. Haruna Iddrissu wants the Executive Director of the National Identification Authority and the Minister in charge of supervising the Ghana Card registration exercise to appear before the House and update it on the national identification exercise.

Considering how vital the exercise is in our daily national activities, the leader is of the view that the responsible bodies must update the House on its operations.

“I am demanding that the National Identification Authority be hauled before Parliament and any supervising minister to give adequate reports on the status of the national identification exercises,” Mr. Iddrisu said in Parliament.

For some time now the government has been assiduously working to make the Ghana Card the foremost identification document in Ghana.

Currently, that is the card being used to register for government services like Passports, as well as being merged with Social Security and National Insurance Trust.

Also, it serves as the only required card for the re-registration of SIM cards being used in Ghana.

As it stands now the Ghana Card will also be the only recognized identification in banks and other regulated financial institutions from July 1, 2020.
