National Security intelligence cannot guarantee our safety – Ablakwa insists
The ability of the National Security to gather intelligence and guarantee the safety and protection of Ghanaians have been questioned by the North Tongu legislator, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
His doubts about their capabilities stem from the inconsistencies that the notorious illegal miner Aisha Huang’s case has been fraught with.
Making his submission during a discussion on Citi TV, the legislator said “All of us Ghanaians are worried at the turn of events as it has exposed the lack of trust in state agencies, Aisha Huang has rendered the entire apparatus clueless, worthless and all and we should be worried”.
The Ranking member of the foreign affairs committee in parliament said “that is why we the National Democratic Congress need a probe to know her collaborators she cannot do this alone she has collaborators in high places”.
Mr Ablakwa opined that Ghanaians are not being told the whole truth behind the saga hence the inconsistencies in the case. Citing the recent revelations he made regarding the case, he still stood by the position that stating that due process was not followed in the supposed repatriation or deportation of Aisha Huang as she was not escorted by authorities and that her country was informed about the decision days later.
Still finding it difficult to fathom the initial move by the government in 2018, Mr Ablaka indicated that as a member of the foreign affairs committee in parliament he is privy to how people deported are escorted to their home countries but the same was not done in Aisha Huang’s case. He then called the whole deportation, and repatriation narrative a charade.
For him, there have been numerous contributions by Members of Parliament towards the enhancement of national security following the terrorism threat in the subregion and Aisha Huang has placed all that hard work into rubble.
It is in the light of this that he and the minority in parliament are demanding a full-scale investigation into the matter; a commission of enquiry type of probe to know the collaborators.
He then pointed out that there must be sincerity to get to the bottom of the matter.
