I had nowhere to stay after my father died – Nii Nkosuohene recounts humble beginning
Never doubt a man who goes after his dreams nor doubt the power of time to influence change. That is exactly the story of one young Ghanaian who has refused to let his low beginning and the traffic of problems block his pathway to greatness.
Today, he owns one of the best basic schools in Ghana’s capital, Pure City International School, Accra and the owner also of one of the fastest-rising media brands in the country, Active TV and Radio Network.
As the son of a police officer, he stayed in the government provided apartments, but when his father died a few months before he enrolled in Senior Secondary School, he knew the hardships he was going through were only going to get worse if for nothing at all. But they say everyone journey is often prepared to pass through a certain path and it is only those who step out to walk that will meet the travellers who their route, only there you would expect help from another sojourner.
When he lost his father and his family had to leave the Police Barracks, finding a place to lay his head was a problem for the teenager but his classmate, Francis Bentum(Asempa) in basic school was around led him to his[Asempa] elder brother Raphael Bentum. According to him, he pleaded with Raphael Bentum to him[Senafiawo] let him stay with them because he had no place to go to.
“…Raph took me in, he fed me, clothed for the many years of my stay with them at Achimota ABC without me paying a dime,” he revealed.
“So when you are in a position to help somebody, do it. Do it with all our heart without any conditions attached. Today, because of how brother Raph helped me, his child is at Pure City[Pure City International School] under scholarship. His son is currently the SRC President of Pure City,” he explained how that help from Ralf enabled him to also help others now.
On how life would have been without the people who helped him, he said, “right from day one, I said no excuses. I am a go-getter. A very determined and very focused person. If I hadn’t encountered these people life would have been very tough for me….but God knew where he was taking me to so he made me meet these people. So there were purposely created to help me and they helped me sailed through life. And when I got to where I am, I decided to give back to society”.
Speaking to Raphael Bentum when he joined the conversation on phone, Mr Senafiawo said, “We called you this morning on Active TV not because of anything but to say thank you to you. I remember Achimota ABC, behind St. John’s Grammar School, by their primary and JHS, that is where we stayed. You didn’t know me, I am not your family member but when it got to a point where I was looking for a place to stay so I can complete my school[Secondary School], you helped me and I completed. If it was not you, maybe I would not be here today So on behalf of Pure City and Active TV and thousands of my cherished viewers, I would want to say a very big than you to you. God bless you”.
