The exercise that spanned almost three months and even had to be extended now has its provisional results ready and announced by the Government Statistician Prof Samuel Anim at a press briefing in Accra.

According to the population breakdown, Greater Accra Region which had a population of 4 million in 2010 now has 5.4 million whereas Ashanti has also 5.4 million, up from the 4.8 million it posted in the 2010 census.

The world over, countries undertake censues to ascertain their populations for smooth implementation of policies that suit the lifestyle of their citizens and Ghana was supposed to hold its population and housing in 2020 but due to the novel coronavirus it had to be pushed to 2021 .

This year’s PHC was fully digital with the use of Computer Assisted Personal Interview to capture information about housing and population characteristics in the population.
