Former Deputy Attorney General Godfred Dame rewarded handsomely for trouncing Ghana’s famous legal luminary Lawyer Tsatsu Tsikata at the Supreme Court of Ghana.
Godfred Dame, then the deputy Attorney General faced off with the man popularly tagged the “Legal Faculty” in a case that challenged the gazetting of the now Member of Parliament for Hohoe Constituency and Former Energy Minister, Peter Amewu. The case was initially held at the Ho High Court where an injunction was granted against the swearing-in of Mr. Peter Amewu as MP for the area. The High Court granted the injunction and that prompted the Attorney General to run to the Supreme Court seeking the Court to nullify the ruling of the High Court and also stop it from further hearing the case against Mr.Amewu and the Electoral Commision.
The Supreme Court after first objecting the call for recusal of Justice Honyenuga from the panel by the Counsel for the five interested parties, the case was finally heard and Godfred Dame shocked his senior at the bar with a resounding 5-0 knocked that set social media ablaze.
The Supreme Court said the Ho High Court erred in granting the injunction against Mr. John Peter Amewu from being gazetted as MP for Hohoe. It further said that some reliefs being sort by the residents of Santrokofi, Akpafu, Likpe, and Lolobi (SALL) can only be granted in an election petition and not in a case of human rights as the current case pertains.
The ruling got making on social media praising Godfred Dame for not only standing up to Mr.Tsikata but going on to floor him with an overwhelming 5-0 defeat. Well, that victory did not only come with its glory and fame but also a juicy elevation from deputy Attorney General to substantive. Sweet victory indeed and to all young ones out there, Dame says, don’t rest until you get there because getting there pays.
