Ghanaians not interested in the acquisition of a new Presidential jet
Mixed reactions from Ghanaians has greeted the government’s intention to procure a new presidential jet since it was made known by the Director of Communications at the presidency, Mr Eugene Arhin during a press briefing.
For the Minority Caucus in Parliament, their stance on the move is already known as they have criticized the government’s plans and deemed it as profligate expenditure and would resist the government’s attempt to procure any new aircraft.
But what of the ordinary Ghanaian? Some have indicated that the timing is bad and need to be invested in other sectors for the Ghanaians to benefit more.
Others are also singing the same song as the Minority in Parliament, seeing it as a waste of money while there are other very important sectors begging for government’s attention and have urged the government to shelve the idea for now.
But Director of Communications at the presidency, Mr Eugene Arhin explained that the reason why the government wants to procure a bigger get is to cut the cost of travels since there are instances where the first delegation needs to be sent ahead of the main presidential delegation and that often leads to the increase in the cost.
Before this intention was made known, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa criticized the government over the cost of the President’s trips and bemoaned the burden on the taxpayer and even called for a national discussion and regulation to be brought up regarding presidential travels.
