An international conference on legal education is scheduled to be opened by President Akufo-Addo in Ghana on November 29, 2021.

One of the Issues the conference is billed to consider is the future of legal education in Ghana and Africa as well.

This conference comes at a time where Ghanaians have raised diverse views considering the tumultuous process one has to go through to join the learned profession in Ghana. While others want it to be entrenched for the privileged few others on the other hand want the system liberalized and a decentralized system of professional legal education in Ghana.

The conference, under the auspices of the University of Ghana School of Law, is thus expected to dissect and critically analyze the policy, legal, management, and ethical frameworks of the country’s legal education, its curriculum development, and teaching methodologies and resources for the education.

Adding to the numerous argument on legal education is the comment by Attorney General, Godfred Dame stating that practising law is a privilege and not a right, which took the debate on legal education to another level and created much more controversy before his turnaround direction to the General Legal Council to admit the 499 LLB students who were agitating their admission denial.
