The service will consider the fate of the two schools amidst appeals by both parents and students.

A decision on whether to reopen the Bolgatanga and Bawku Technical Institutes is scheduled to be taken by the Ghana Education Service after riots led to the closure of both institutions.

The closure of the school has since been justified by the Upper East Regional Minister Stephen Yakubu who explained that such a decision had to be taken by the Regional Security Council to save lives and property.

He assured that more robust security measures have been put in place to avert any mishap again and also for a conducive environment for the final years to write their papers.

“We closed the schools because of the state of insecurity. We didn’t want to lose any lives, so we have security agents in the schools. As to reopening of the schools, that decision has to come from the GES but we at REGSEC have done our part.”

Also, the Parent and Teacher Association of particularly the Bolgatanga Technical Institute is scheduled to be in the school today to also help in addressing the situation.

It would be recalled that students of both institutions went on a rampage after an alleged instance of examination malpractice was foiled by authorities and that led to the closure of the schools by the Upper East REGSEC.

Reports also indicate that four students were nabbed by the police after the riots in the school.

Though the same student rioting situation was encountered in the Bawku Technical Institute, no arrest was made there.

An appeal has been by parents and students for the reopening of both institutions as especially the female students lament the risk they have been exposed to.
