Member of Parliament for the Madina constituency Francis –Xavier Sosu could not honour the court’s invitation today making it the second time he has done that.

Police prosecutor, ASP Sylvester Asare revealed to the Kaneshie District Court 1 that he had served the hearing notice to Parliament and wondered why the latter had not responded.

A letter dated 10th November 2021 signed by the Deputy Clerk of Parliament Eric Owusu Mensah, addressed to the Registrar of the Court in response to the hearing notice indicated that Mr Sosu was still on Parliamentary duty outside of Ghana’s jurisdiction.

According to the letter as read by the Court Clerk, Francis-Xavier Sosu is  “attending at the proceedings of the  3rd Meeting of the 1st Session of the 8th Parliament which commenced on Tuesday 26th November 2021, and is also currently representing Parliament and the country in a conference in the United States of America”.

The letter says under the stated constraints of the Constitution, Speaker Bagbin is “unable to bring the service to the attention of the Member of Parliament as requested.”

That absence led to the adjournment of the case again to November 26, 2021.

The lawmaker has been out of the country on Parliamentary duty and could not honour the Court invitation last week, following a number of failed attempts by the Police to arrest him.

His attempted arrests had brought up some national discourse and debate relating to his immunities as a Member of Parliament.
