Foreign Affairs ministry investigate claims that foreigners are acquiring Ghanaian passports

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has commenced an investigation into allegations making rounds in the public that foreigners are acquiring the Ghanaian Passport.

According to a statement released by the Ministry, “The ministry is investigating the said allegation and would take appropriate measures to deal with the situation if found to be true”.

The Ministry indicated that it trust the robust measures put in place to vet persons applying for a Ghanaian passport hence making it difficult for unqualified persons to go through that tangent to acquire the passport.

“It is worth emphasizing that with the current biometric passport being issued by the Passport Office applicants undergo rigorous vetting processes which make it difficult for unqualified persons, notably, foreigners, to acquire Ghanaian passport,” the statement added.

It promised to ensure the integrity of the Ghanaian Passport is maintained and that it would adopt relevant measures for that purpose.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration wishes to assure the general public that it would continue to adopt relevant measures in the issuance of Ghanaian passports in order to uphold and protect the integrity of the travel document.”
