The District Chief Executive for Ellembelle has accused the Western Regional Police command of trying to implicate him in the missing excavators scandal. Kwasi Bonzoh who is under investigation in relation to the matter has alleged that the police are trying to implicate him.

He blamed the police officers who were sent to guard the excavators for leaving the scene for four hours and leaving the excavators unguarded. Mr Bonzoh was arrested in connection to the scandal before he was later granted bail.

Mr Bonzoh wondered why the police officers expected to guard the excavators were not being held accountable while he and his colleagues were rather an under investigation.

“From the benefit of hindsight, I have realised the regional commander only came here to do a cover-up and not to do any investigation,” the DCE said while speaking to journalists from the site near Teleku Bokazo, where the two excavators were last seen.

Mr Bonzoh then alleged that the police deliberately want to probe him and also challenged them by telling that if they want to find the excavators they know where to go so they should go get the excavators.

The police commenced investigation into the incident before issuing a statement to deny alleged claims by the DCE that two excavators which were used by illegal miners at Nkroful had vanished from the police custody.

“We wish to categorically state that no excavators were handed over to the police by the District Chief Executive of Ellembelle, Mr. Kwasi Bonzoh or any other person from the assembly. We, therefore, urge the public to disregard the publication and treat it with the contempt it deserves,” a statement from the police read.

The DCE along with his personal assistant and one other are under investigation over the two missing excavators.
