Customers form long queues at ECG office

The Public Utility Regulatory Commission has revealed that it has been liaising with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) every step of the way to address the prepaid credit recharge situation.

Director of Research and Cooperate Affairs at the PURC, Dr Eric Kofi Obutey during an interview on TV3 on October 3 2022 confirmed this saying “the PURC has been with the service provider since last week to address the situation and to a very large extent the service provider has been able to rectify the situation and most customers are been served“.

Accounting for what could have caused the long queues, Dr Obutey said “the long queues might be a build-up of customers that are supposed to be served but I believe by the end of the day it will reduce,” despite some customers still arguing that their situation is yet to be resolved.

Assessing the gravity of the situation Dr Obutey indicated that officials of PURC are also on the ground monitoring the situation at the vending points and added that “with that said we have been engaging the service provider for the situation to normalize”.

A suggestion of opening more vending points to serve the customers to address the situation was brought into the picture by Dr Obutey.

He also revealed that as a measure to appease the customers for what they went through, a compensation package is being discussed.

“We know the customers have suffered so compensation package is being discussed because through no fault of theirs they have to endure this blackout. I cannot tell you what form the compensation will take as various compensation packages are being considered but will for now not put anything out,” Dr Obutey said.
