Domaahene Oseadeyo Agyeman Badu II has cautioned that he will ruthlessly deal with those involved in illegal logging, lumbering and felling of trees in his area.

Oseadeyo Agyeman Badu explained to the people that there is a reason why the Almighty God, our creator in his own wisdom created trees. Such natural resources are meant to coexist with humankind hence the saying “when the last tree dies the last man dies.”

The Chief gave out this word of caution when toured the Mpemsuo forest reserve within the district.

He charged his sub-chiefs to be watchful that such practices do not take place within their jurisdiction else they will also be held culpable and be appropriately sanctioned.

Ghana’s forest reserves are fast depleting under the threat of illegal lumbering and mining. The acts which destroy trees and do not offer replacement have left many forest short of their former states. It has prompted calls from activists and various stakeholders for authorities to act fast to save the situation.

This act of commitment from the Dormaahene could be the direction the country needs to take to end or at least reduce the threat to our forest reserves.
