The deadline for the sim card re-registration exercise has been extended after much appeals and anticipation from the public, the Communication Ministry has revealed.

The reason for the extension of the deadline according to the Ministry’s statement on March 22 2022 is the fact that the sole identification card Ghanaians need to use for the said process is yet to be acquired by some Ghanaians making it difficult to meet the initial 31st March deadline.

This coupled with other hitches during the exercise necessitated the need for an extension.

“These issues make it imperative for the deadline to be extended to ensure that every eligible SIM card is captured and we produce a credible database by the end of the exercise. The Ministry of Communications and Digitalization has therefore extended the deadline for the registration of Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) cards to 31st July 2022,” the statement said.

While revealing additional plans put in place to aid many persons who are yet to reregister their SIM cards do so, the ministry indicated that as of 17th March, 14 million SIM cards had been linked to the Ghana card and over 10 million bio-captures conducted.
