The Kibi Circuit Court on Thursday, July 14, 2022, remanded a 32-year-old driver whose identity has not yet been revealed over the murder of two persons.

He faces charges of negligently causing harm in violation of Section 72 of the Criminal Offenses Act of 1960, Act 29, and careless and imprudent driving in violation of Section 3 of the Road Traffic Act of 2004 (Act 683) as amended by Act 2008 Act 761.

Although the court is yet to take the plea of the accused person, Police preliminary investigations revealed that the driver of the articulated truck with registration number AS 4229 X was speeding and decided to suddenly apply brakes after seeing vehicles ahead of him slowing down.

Police say the truck veered off its lane into the vehicle of the MCE, resulting in the death of the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai MCE and his driver, Samuel Gyasi.

When the case was called on Thursday, July 14, 2022, the prosecution led by Detective Inspector Kamal Salifu Gumah, prayed for the court to remand the accused, to allow ample time for further investigations.

Detective Inspector Gumah stated that after the investigations are done, the case docket would be sent to the Attorney General’s office for guidance.

The accused was then remanded by the Peter Oppong-Boahen-presiding court, and the case was adjourned to Wednesday, July 20, 2022

It will be recalled that on Wednesday, July 13, the sudden death of the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai MCE, Alfred Amoah, and his personal driver surfaced on the Internet, with many expressing their deepest condolences.

Multiple vehicles were apparently involved in the collision, which reportedly happened in the Eastern Region at Apedwa close to Tafo.

A few hours after he and MCE Alfred Amoah split up following a meeting in Accra, the Western North Regional Minister, Richard Rocky Joojo Obeng, confirmed getting the tragic news but informed Graphic Online he had not yet been provided information of what actually transpired.

“He was with me this afternoon. He just left my company around 4:00 pm. Yes, he was with me in Accra,” he said, indicating they were together at an official meeting.

Ministers, their deputies, and chief executives of metropolitan, municipal, and district assemblies as well as presidential employees, have been gathering for a five-day retreat to review the state of the economy and evaluate current initiatives.

The MCE was travelling in his Nissan Patrol with a registration number GN 2060 – 18 along with his driver, with the other accident vehicles identified as a trailer with registration number, AS 4229 – X and a fuel tanker with registration number, GN – 8549 – X.
