Christiano Ronaldo returns to Old Trafford as United hijacks City’s move with a last-minute deal
Christiano Ronaldo completes sensational move back to Old Trafford
Christiano Ronaldo and Manchester United have reached a deal for the Portuguese forward to return to Old Trafford, 12 years after he left the club to sign for real Madrid in 2009.
The club posted on its official Twitter handle late Friday afternoon to confirm what has been a rather twisted transfer saga involving the 36-year old superstar. Ronaldo was being tracked by United’s next-door neighbours Manchester City as Pep Guardiola’s side was rumoured to have reached a deal with the five-time Balon d’Or winner.
However, things took a fast twist in the morning of Friday, just 4 days before the summer transfer window closes. Ronaldo according to Juventus coach Allegri had made his intentions clear that he wants to leave the Turin-based side and would not be called up for the weekend’s clash against Empoli.
Ronaldo trended on Twitter in the last 24 hours with many United fans feeling peeved by Ronaldo’s decision to join a team that is in direct competition with the Red Devils whose fans have followed the Portuguese in the journey all through Madrid to Turin. It was also reported that he was offered by his agent Jorge Mendes to United soon after it became clear Ronaldo wanted to end his association with the Old Lady but the red Devils turned down the deal.
The latest announcement by the club that a deal has been reached for his return would nonetheless go down as the best news for the club’s fans in a long while and has now added to the transfer window that has already seen crazy deals done.
His transfer away from Juventus whom he has two series A titles with will add to the summer’s high profile movement that includes Barcelona and Real Madrid legends Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos joining Ligue 1 side Paris Saint Germain. Romelu Lukaku’s transfer back to his former club Chelsea was already a top deal in the Premier League alongside Jack Grealish £100 million transfer from Aston Villa to Manchester City and Ronaldo will just now add to the big summer deals.
Another of the heavy deals that could still occur this season is PSG’s Kylian Mbappe purported move to Real Madrid who is reported to have tabled a fresh offer of €170 million after their initial €160 million bid was turned down by The Parisians.
