Pressure is mounting for Madam Eunice Jacqueline Buah Asomah-Hinneh, a Council of State member, to be relieved of her position as a member of a Council of State member following the commencement of investigations by the Office of the Special Prosecutor into corruption-related offences committed by her.

Anti-corruption crusader, Mr Vitus Azeem has joined the list of people demanding for her head by reiterating that Mrs Asomah-Hinneh should have been shown the exit by now.

“This Council of State member should have resigned by now. If the leadership, the President and his executive are determined to fight corruption, that should be the case,” Mr Azeem said

According to him, this is the time President Akufo-Addo must show commitment to fighting corruption by demanding further investigations into the matter.

Mrs Asomah-Hinneh who is a member of the Board of Directors of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority and also runs Labianca Company Limited, a company that has come under scrutiny, has been fished out by the Special Prosecutor for allegedly using her influence to gain favour from the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority.

The act by the Council of State member aided her company’s tax liabilities to reduce.

As it stands now, the Office of the Special Prosecutor is said to have recovered an amount of GHS1 million from Labianca.

However, Mr Azeem is not confident the said company would get the appropriate sanctions for its offence.

“The Special Prosecutor, like the former one, is probably struggling to do his best, but I am not sure if he will be given the necessary cooperation and the necessary support [he will succeed],” Mr Azeem.

Mr Frank Asare, the whistleblower who alerted the Office of the Special Prosecutor to investigate the matter, also supports the call that Mrs Asomah-Hinneh should be sacked.

He stressed that the Council of State deserved members with better morals.

“I hold the view that people who are members of the Council of State have high moral turpitude, and they should at all cost do things that will rather help the nation to grow,” Mr Asare said.
