To prevent any lives from being lost due to the spillages of the Bagre Dam from Burkina Faso, the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) Director General, Eric Agyeman Prempeh has revealed that a rescue team has been deployed on the White Volta stretch.

The spillage of the dam which occurs every year to curb instances where the Dam’s banks would break leads to so much discomfort for communities in Ghana as many of them flood, lose crops and livestock and unfortunately sometimes individuals lose their lives as a result.

Mr Agyeman Prempeh while assessing the level of damage the spillage caused in the Galaka community expressed confidence in the team led by NADMO to avert any further damage by the spillage.

He was at the Bawku West District  to visit the confluence of the Bagre and Kompeliga tributary at Galaka.

“We (Rescue team) are based in Walewale with our equipment and our men who have the technical know-how to report to the rescue mission. We have also written officially to the Ghana Armed Forces and the Inspector General of Police for the 48 engineers regiment and the marine police to support us when the need arises.”

Residents along the White Volta were advised to move to higher grounds and be cautious during the spillage.

He also pointed out that they are expecting the water to be more in the coming days and hoped they could really march up to the situation and indicated that until the Pwalugu dam is constructed they have to deal with this situation for some time.

Mr Agyeman expressed hope that the government would secure the requisite funds to construct the Pwalugu dam to address the situation.

Mr Stephen Yakubu the  Upper East Regional Minister said the government will not renege on its promise of constructing the Pwalugu Multipurpose dam to finally put an end to the havoc caused by the yearly spillage of the Bagre Dam.
