Armed robbers attack Kumasi-bound VIP bus, robs 40 passengers of huge sums of money
Unknown assailants believe to be armed robbers have attacked 40 passengers on a VIP bus heading towards Kumasi with registration number GT 5795-16.
Ekua, a victim and also a passenger in the bus in an interview with Nhyriaba Paa Kwesi Simpson on Omanbapa morning show on Monday, February 21 2022 in narrating the incident said “our bus took off from Abenbebon station in Apremdo, Takoradi at 10: 30pm on Sunday, February 20, 2022, and ‘ around 3:30 am today, February 2022 five armed robbers in masks, heavily armed with weapons attacked us, taking all our monies and personal belongings and after the robbery, these robbers requested for our prayers.
“These robbers requested passengers prayers on the basis that, it is not their intentions to rob them but the system is what has compelled them to do this”, she stated.
The driver of the bus, Agya Owusu also disclosed that there was nothing he could have done to help salvage the situation, adding that he has also been robbed of GH¢3,400. Though he stated that, ” when I got to Fomena, another driver was giving me alert by his car light that there was danger, I was rather confused, I stopped for five minutes then I continued but on getting closer I saw a sprinter bus with its passengers on the road and that was when I realized it was armed robbers but as at the time it was too late for me to turn back because I was to close”.
According to another young man whose name is unknown he also disclosed that his bag with an amount of GH8,500 was also robbed. The young man then narrates, “I am a driver and I was going to buy my car engine at Kumasi, this how come I had such money on me since my mobile money phone was stolen just last week and I didn’t have any option than to carry such amount and I have been robbed again”.
He further noted they were all stranded at the Anwiankwanta police station where they have lodged their complaint.
