All contracts for the Agenda 111 project were legally awarded – Kojo Oppong Nkrumah
Ghana’s minister for information has refuted claims by critics that contracts for the “Agenda 111” hospital infrastructure project were illegally awarded.
Mr Oppong Nkrumah put out this rebuttal during one of the regular Meet the press briefings at the Ministry of Information last Sunday.
He stated that the government understand some concerns raised by some Ghanaians about the project but however refuted what he described as deliberate “politically-motivated claims of impropriety being cooked up against the project.”
Responding to claims of the illegal awards of contracts made by MP for North Dayi, Hon. Joycelyn Tetteh, the Information Minister said,” Government assures the public that all the contracts associated with the project were legally granted in accordance with approval from the Public Procurement Act.”
He went ahead to deny claims that the contracts were inflated as being suggested by some critics.
It is said that the Agenda 111 project will be the largest health infrastructure project undertaken by any government in Ghana if successfully completed. This ties in with the incumbent government’s ambition to ensure universal healthcare to all citizens and the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals.
Each hospital is estimated at a cost of about $16 million. They include 88 district hospitals, regional hospitals and psychiatric hospitals.
