Mr Vitus Azeem, an anti-graft crusader has said that he does not support the decision of the president to relieve Col (Rtd)Kwadwo Damoah, Commissioner of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) o his duty as attempts are being made to unravel the mystery behind the Labianca scandal.

For Mr Azeem, a better option was to just ask  Col (Rtd) Damoah to step aside or to proceed on a leave for further investigations to be carried out into the matter.

“If you want the investigators to come out with a finding, then you can ask him to step aside or proceed on leave pending the outcome of the investigation,” he said.

“It may even give the impression to the people that the aim of the president is probably to shield some of the people that may come out from that investigation,” he added.

Interestingly, Col Damoah’s contract expired in 2021 yet he was still working in full capacity as the Commissioner of Customs until this issue came up and put in the spotlight.

What to Mr Azeem makes the situation worrying is whether he is being sacked because of the Labianca issue or his time according to his contract had run out.
